Task 1: Business Research

The organization I chose for this case study is T-Mobile US. In April 2020, T-Mobile US announced that it would be merging with Sprint US. This merger is expected to create the fifth-largest wireless carrier in the United States.

The merger is expected to have a number of benefits for both companies. T-Mobile US will gain access to Sprint US’s network, which will allow it to expand its coverage and reach more customers. Sprint US will gain access to T-Mobile US’s financial resources, which will allow it to invest in its network and improve its customer service.

However, the merger is also expected to have some challenges. One challenge is that the merger will create a more concentrated market for wireless services. This could lead to higher prices for consumers. Another challenge is that the merger will result in job losses. T-Mobile US and Sprint US have said that they will try to minimize the number of job losses, but it is inevitable that some employees will be laid off.

Overall, the merger of T-Mobile US and Sprint US is a significant change for both companies. The merger is expected to have both benefits and challenges. It is important for both companies to manage the change carefully in order to minimize the negative impacts and maximize the positive impacts.

Task 2: Systems Diagramming

I created the following systems diagrams to help me understand the change process that T-Mobile US and Sprint US are going through.

Present State System Map

The present state system map shows the current state of the two companies. T-Mobile US is a mid-sized wireless carrier with a strong brand and a loyal customer base. Sprint US is a smaller wireless carrier with a weaker brand and a smaller customer base.

Future State System Map

The future state system map shows the desired state of the two companies after the merger. The merged company will be the fifth-largest wireless carrier in the United States. It will have a strong brand, a loyal customer base, and a nationwide network.

Force Field Diagram

The force field diagram shows the forces that are driving the change and the forces that are resisting the change. The driving forces include the desire to create a stronger company, the need to expand coverage, and the need to improve customer service. The resisting forces include the fear of job losses, the fear of higher prices, and the fear of increased competition.

Multiple Cause Diagram

The multiple cause diagram shows the multiple causes of the change. The causes include the increasing competition in the wireless industry, the need to expand coverage, and the need to improve customer service.

Business Process Map

The business process map shows the steps involved in the merger. The steps include due diligence, regulatory approval, and integration.

Task 3: Management Report

The key change that I chose to focus on is the merger of T-Mobile US and Sprint US. This merger is a significant change for both companies. It is important for both companies to manage the change carefully in order to minimize the negative impacts and maximize the positive impacts.

The potential impact of the merger on key stakeholders includes:

Recommendations

I recommend that T-Mobile US and Sprint US take the following steps to support stakeholders through the transition:
