\nThis module examines the history of healthcare reform including
\nthe Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA or ACA).
\nChanges in healthcare policies can impact healthcare consumers
\nboth positively and negatively. For example, under the ACA
\nchildren can obtain coverage through their parents\u2019 employersponsored or privately purchased insurance plan through the age
\nof 26 (Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation [KFF], 2018). According to
\nKFF, since this provision of the bill came into effect in 2013, the
\nrate of uninsured nonelderly adults dropped from 20.5% to 12.2%
\nin 2016 and even with all the progress, young people remain the
\nleast insured age group in the United States. Healthcare reform
\naffects the consumer as well as the provider and healthcare
\nworker. In this module, you will examine populations affected by
\nthe ACA, and the transition from traditional healthcare to one with
\na strong governmental influence. You will have the opportunity to
\ncompare and contrast traditional healthcare in the United States
\nwith the ACA, as well as explore changes in the current policies
\nthat impact health care in the United States.
