\nThis Capstone Report Guide describes qualitative research approaches that
\nmay not be approved for all schools. Read your school’s “Acceptable Methods”
\ndocument on iGuide to determine which approaches can be used in your school.
\nPurpose of this Document
\nThis document presents detailed information about each of the Chapters
\nrequired for a Capella capstone. Sections within each Chapter are also described.
\nEach section in this document aligns with the Capstone Deliverable Guide and
\nTemplates. Carefully read the Chapter Guide so that you can be certain to provide
\nthe material that is necessary to successfully write each section of your capstone.
\nThe information in this document is a more general discussion for all capstones,

\nidentified in the Capstone Deliverable Guide and Templates.
\nConsult with your mentor about adding headings that might be necessary
\nto enhance the organizational structure of your capstone.

\nABSTRACT
\nThe purpose of the abstract is to provide a concise and accurate synopsis of key
\nelements of your capstone. Include the following information (suggested length: 400
\nwords or less):

\nTips for developing a quality abstract
\n1. Keep in mind that the abstract is representative of your work. Researchers will
\nreview your abstract to determine whether your capstone is worthy of reading
\nand relevant to their literature review. Employers may review your abstract to
\nlearn more about the nature and quality of your doctoral work. The abstract
\nshould, therefore, represent your most polished and well-written work!
\n2. Guidelines for the development of an abstract are in section 2.04 of the APA
\nPublication Manual, 6th edition\/section 2.9 of the APA Publication Manual, 7

\n3. References are generally not used in the abstract, as the focus is the study, the
\nresearch, and the findings.

\nSECTION 1. BACKGROUND
\nOverview of Doctoral Capstone Project
\nThis section should provide a general overview of your capstone project ( help with nursing paper writing from experts with MSN & DNP degrees). It should

\nshould be clear and focused, and well supported in the current literature (no more than

\nThis section should expand on section 3.1 of the DPP.
\nProblem Statement
\nWrite a statement of the problem or need for improvement at the capstone site or
\nprogram. Clearly describe the gap in current practice, service, process, policy, and\/or
\nthe identified outcome. Identify the performance gap you wish to close and the potential
\nroot causes of the problem. State the purpose of the study.

\nPurpose of the Deliverable
\nThe purpose of the study is to answer the research question or provide practical
\nanswers to a problem or weaknesses of the current practice, service, or process, policy.
\nThis section should include:
\n\u2022 A summary of the intended outcomes of the study.
\n\u2022 An identification of who can benefit from this research and how they might
\nbenefit.
\n\u2022 A statement of the purpose of the study and the need that it addresses.
\n\u2022 A statement about the outcomes or findings of the Capstone Project and how
\nthey will be sustained.

\nEvidence\/Data Used to Establish Rationale for Deliverable
\nThe section should expand on section 2.2 in DPP and provide a rationale supported by
\ncurrent information regarding the need for this Capstone Project.
\nThis section should include:

\nIn the most basic sense, the organizational context may be understood as the
\n“background” or “environment” (not physical) in which the organization operates.

\nThis section should discuss the shared beliefs and values established by leaders and
\nthen communicated and reinforced through various methods. Discuss how leaders’
\nvalues and beliefs shape employee perceptions, behaviors, and understanding.

\nTheoretical Framework
\nIn this section, expand on section 2.3 in the DPP by discussing the theoretical

\nmajor references to support your theoretical orientation, and briefly describe the
\norientation.
\nEssentially, the “theoretical orientation” or framework is one’s “point of view” from which

\nhere is where your reader will see what the literature leads you to conclude about

\nCritique of the Previous Research Methods
\nIn this section, examine the quality of the research you have reviewed. What are
\nthe methodological strengths and limitations of the works you reviewed? How do
\nthose weaknesses, in particular, affect your own argument? You will be considering
\nthings such as the rigor of designs, sampling errors, size of samples, quality of
\nresearch instruments, appropriateness of statistical procedures, and any other
\nissues related to the quality of research.
\nApproximately 2 \u2013 3 pages
\nEthical Considerations
\nThis section should expand section 6.1 of the DPP and summarize the sections of your

\n\u2022 An explanation of how you plan to protect participants during recruitment, data
\ncollection, and data analysis.

\nassumption of the theory that supports your theoretical framework.
\nMethodological Assumptions
\nThis is where you discuss the ontological, epistemological, and axiological

\nMake sure to cite a peer-reviewed article about these assumptions to support
\nyour explanations for the assumptions, and then apply each assumption to your

\nLimitations
\nIn this section, you will expand on section 4.7 of the DPP.
\nThere are basically two forms of limitations you must discuss. The first group comprises
\nany important issues regarding your research problem, which for one reason or another,
\nyou are not going to investigate. The second group contains elements of the study that
\nlimit its validity or credibility, its capacity for generalization, and so on–in other words,
\nflaws in the design. Please remember that all research has limitations, so
\nacknowledging them does not diminish your findings!

\nYou should provide an introduction that summarizes the process you used to conduct

\n\u2022 A description of what data will be collected (validated instruments, interviews,
\narchival data, organization policies, and procedures, etc.).
\nA description of data analysis that will be used (thematic analysis, descriptive statistics,
\ninferential statistics).
\nThe Action Research Monograph Deliverable should:
\n\u2022 Define the type of thematic literature review.
\n\u2022 Method of Searching or how you found the sources that you used for your
\nliterature review. Make sure to identify all the databases you used, as well as
\nsearch terms. Explain how you might have combined search terms or used other
\nsearch procedures, such as limiting searches to certain types of publications.

\n\u2022 The recruitment strategies (where applicable).
\n\u2022 The name of the agency.
\n\u2022 The type of agency (profit, nonprofit, government).
\n\u2022 The population served.
\n\u2022 The agency’s mission and\/or human services they provide.
\n\u2022 The name of the authorized individual allowing the use of the organization or site.
\n\u2022 A statement of whether the site has an IRB.
\n\u2022 The process to obtain permission to access the stakeholders, population, or data
\nsource.
\n\u2022 How will potential participants first be contacted? How will participants be
\ncontacted following the study?
\nThis section should expand the following sections of the DPP: Section 5.1, 5.2, .5.4, 5.5,
\nand 5.6.
\nApproximately 4 \u2013 5 pages

\nAssessment Plan
\nIn this section, expand on section 4.4 of the DPP and detail the actual data analyses to
\nbe conducted to address each research question.
\nFor each research question and sub-question, provide the following:
\n\u2022 A description of the data source.
\n\u2022 A description of how raw data will be analyzed (transcription, calculation of
\nscaled variables, etc.).
\n\u2022 A description of how data will be managed, processed, and prepared.
\n\u2022 The method of qualitative analysis or statistical analysis.
\n\u2022 A description of how data will be stored and protected.
\n\u2022 What type of analysis was used in the study.
\nSECTION 3. APPLICATION
\nIntroduction
\nThe focus of this section is about how the findings can be utilized. For many people, it is
\nthe most important discussion point! Be careful not to over-promise how the findings
\ncan be utilized (e.g., \u201cUtilizing the findings of this study would eliminate any errors from
\never being made again!\u201d). It is preferable to be conservative when considering the
\npotential applications of the findings than to over-state them.
\nThis section includes a discussion about relevant outcomes and findings as well as
\napplications and potential benefits of those applications.
\nRelevant Outcomes and Findings
\nThe purpose of this section is to refresh the reader’s understanding of the overall
\nstudy by providing a concise summary of the outcomes.
\nIt should include the following:
\n\u2022 restate the need for the study
\n\u2022 explain the study’s significance
\n\u2022 very briefly indicate the literature reviewed (particularly new findings published
\nwhile the capstone was being completed)
\n\u2022 the methodology used
\n\u2022 a very concise recapitulation of the study’s findings.
\nIn a thematic literature review, you will provide information about the major themes that
\nresulted from the literature review.

\nApplication and Benefits
\n\u2022 Provide a detailed discussion on the applicability of the findings with
\nrespect to the professional practice of human service agencies.
\n\u2022 Explain how and why the findings are relevant to improve organizational
\npractices.
\n\u2022 State to whom the results relate, and how the results might be
\ndisseminated.
\n\u2022 Drawing upon the specifics of your findings, provide several practical
\nsuggestions for the implementation of your findings, conducting additional
\nstudies, or replicating your project ( help with nursing paper writing from experts with MSN & DNP degrees) in other industries, organizations, or
\nfields of practice.
\n\uf07f A description of whom the study will benefit. A description of the specific

\nknowledge base of your industry, specialization, organization, and\/or field.
\nEnsure the interpretations do not exceed the data, findings, and scope of

\n2. Recommendations
\n\u2022 Describe recommendations developed directly from the data.
\n\u2022 These are the typical “recommendations for further study,” built directly on
\nthe outcomes of your study.
\n\u2022 Recommendations derived from methodological, research design, or other
\nlimitations of the study. Once again, these are typical and frequent. They
\nbuild directly on the limitations described in the previous section.
\n3. Conclusion
\n\u2022 This section should begin with a concise summary of the capstone and
\nthen move on to overall conclusions. Note that conclusions are the ideas
\nthat you arrive at by considering the summary. Therefore, in this section,
\nthe writer sums up the capstone, offers a final description (always concise,
\nsometimes eloquent) of the answers to the research question, and
\nprovides closure to the manuscript as a whole.

\n\u2022 Here the writer may provide a rhetorical suggestion for how the study
\ncould be used in furthering our understanding of the problem dealt with.
\nSome researchers, in conclusion, exhibit a more lyrical and personal tone,
\nbut usually, this is discouraged in favor of consistency of tone.
