\nTechnological advances surround us. Today, our lives are shaped by hundreds of inventions that make our lives more comfortable, automatic, productive and easier. The goal of this assignment is to understand how dependent we have become on technology in todays world. It is eye opening to discover, recognize and analyze these “modern conveniences.\u201d
\nThe goal of this assignment is to also understand the older generations. This assignment also provides insight into our dependence on technology!
\nINSTRUCTIONS:
\n\u2022\tChoose any day that works for you.
\n\u2022\tFor 12 hours in a row (not sleeping hours) please don\u2019t use any technology. This assignment is on the \u201chonor\u201d system. If you can commit yourself to this experiment, it will be an \u201ceye opening\u201d experience!
\n\u2022\tWrite about your experience in this assignment and in Discussion #3.
\nTechnology NOT TO USE includes: TV, radio, telephone or smart phone of any kind (cell or land line), Internet, ATM or credit cards (use only cash), Kindle or iPad, tablet, iPod, microwave, washer\/dryer, gaming system of any kind.
\nYou may: Drive a car, use the refrigerator, use the oven\/stove top, read a book and visit with friends and family.
\nThe challenge is to put aside your technology for 12 straight hours!
\nPlease write a 4-6 page paper answering the following questions:
\n1.\tWere you able to last 12 hours without any kind of technology? Please explain.
\n2.\tHow did you pass the time without technology?
\n3.\tWhat are the benefits and pitfalls of excessive technology?
\n4.\tAnalyze the benefits and\/or downfalls of 20th century technologies.
\n5.\tDid living without technology help you to understand and appreciate the older generations a bit more?
\n6.\tWhat have you learned about yourself and others during this experiment?

Generation X

\n\u2022\tREADINGS: Sticking Points: Chapter 6
\n\u2022\tThis week we are reading Chapter 6 in Sticking Points. We are focusing on Generation X.
\n\u2022\tGeneration X (the smallest generation) makes up approximately 20% of the workforce. Generation X grew up during a time that marriage in our society was changing. The divorce rate soared during their childhood years and their mothers entered the workplace in large numbers. Gen X are the \u201clatchkey kids\u201d and often grew up unsupervised forcing them to teach themselves about life and become responsible at a very young age. Often times, these children of the Baby Boomers created their own families in their strong friendships. This was the first generation to introduce \u201ccasual Fridays\u201d and a more casual look at work overall. This generation thinks very differently than Traditionalists and Baby Boomers and does not do well being \u201cmicro managed\u201d in the workplace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
